Jaycee twosome

Me and the boy drove down to Jaycee this afternoon for a twosome. Been a couple years since he's last played here, but he gave me a run for my money nevertheless, especially on the last 5 holes where we matched stroke for stroke, including a nice clutch birdie on the 17th from about 20 feet.

Hot 'n Sweaty Johnson

Took a drive down to Johnson in the afternoon with the intention of playing 36, but neglected to bring water, and was so completely whipped after the first 18 that I decided to call it a day. Not a bad round, but little to write home to mother about, aside from a freak birdie on 15, and then a twenty minute disc search on 12 that was eventually found lodged in the upper branches of a pine tree, and then a flock of turkeys sighted in the woods off the 16th hole.

Working out the Kinks at Brewer

Went down to Brewer around 11:30 today for a solo 36 holes. Started with Blue today, since the park was relatively quiet for once, and thought I might have a harder time getting in that one later in the day as the crowds showed up. Started out like gangbusters tying my personal best of four under par. A lot of new plastic in the bag today, and gave everybody lots of flight time to try out new approaches and techniques. Moved on to Red after that, and had one of my worst nines of the day with 11 over par, and a lot of wayward drives (real long, but in completely the wrong direction much of the time). Settled down a bit once I got to White, and actually had a four on the first hole (rare for me), but then cancelled it out with a 5 on the next one. A few birdies on White helped cancel out the double bogeys and ended up with a reasonable 4 over, and I also discovered that the Red Flash that I've been having trouble with seems to fly beautifully as a sidearm disc, and gave me a beautiful drive on the 7th hole for a birdie. Gold was last, and I was starting to get a little worn out, especially in the legs, but the scores stayed pretty manageable and I had a few decent shots left in the bag, even ending on a birdie on the final hole. Felt much better than the last few times I've gone out. Need to keep up this regimen in preparation for a Ludington trip this coming weekend.

Todays total for 36 was 122 (not a personal best, but not bad either)

Lost

Disc attrition continues at an alarming rate. 3 discs lost to the pond today. Just don't feel like wading out into the pond to get them. Feels like I've lost whatever disc skills I once had. Need to get back on the horse in a big way.

Frisbee, we hardly knew ye

Been a LOOONG time since the last outing, and boy were we rusty. The three of us headed down to Riverside for an afternoon round of golf. Horrible scores, drives going in every direction but towards the basket, comical approach shots (about the only thing that didn't seem to suffer was the putting, thank goodness). Terri ended up taking this round by a single stroke at the end of the day (scorecard to come later, when I dig it out of my golf bag), but not before we ended up losing 4 discs to the Riverside pond - a red 'Riptide' on 14, an approach Millenium disc on 15, white Rogue and blue Discraft Buzz on 16 (and all this after going INTO the pond for two discs on 13 -- I think we just got sick and tired of shucking shoes and wading out into the muck) -- UG, really need to get back into the groove, but a busy work schedule won't make that any easier anytime soon.

Getting My Mind Right

Final dress/Benefit performance tonight with the Flurkers, so I went out in the afternoon to Johnson to get some much needed sunshine, physical fitness and stress relief. Spent all the time between shots reviewing lyrics to songs and running through the show in my head. Shot a pretty good round, although there were several sloppy holes on the back 9 which kept it from being a record breaking round. One highlight was a beautiful drive on the fifth hole that flirted with being an ace, but left me with a 'gimme' birdie as a consolation prize.

New Concrete and Lost Plastic at Riverside

Been a long time since we've gotten a chance to play down at Riverside, what with excessive high water this year, and scheduling difficulties, but we managed to squeeze in a threesome down there this afternoon. We were dismayed to lose two discs to the pond today, one of Terri's drivers (the orange Orc, nicknamed 'Potatohead'), and a red JK Valkyrie that Keenan was using from the 'bullpen'. On the plus side, we were pleased to discover that sometime over the past month, someone has installed new cement tees on all of the back 9 holes that were previously missing them, including a new tee on 18 (in the alternate 'long' position). I ended up shooting better on the back 9 than the front, ending up with an average score of 63, Terri shot below her average with matching 35s for a 70, and Keenan had a frustrating round coming in third at 76.
