Getting My Mind Right

Final dress/Benefit performance tonight with the Flurkers, so I went out in the afternoon to Johnson to get some much needed sunshine, physical fitness and stress relief. Spent all the time between shots reviewing lyrics to songs and running through the show in my head. Shot a pretty good round, although there were several sloppy holes on the back 9 which kept it from being a record breaking round. One highlight was a beautiful drive on the fifth hole that flirted with being an ace, but left me with a 'gimme' birdie as a consolation prize.

New Concrete and Lost Plastic at Riverside

Been a long time since we've gotten a chance to play down at Riverside, what with excessive high water this year, and scheduling difficulties, but we managed to squeeze in a threesome down there this afternoon. We were dismayed to lose two discs to the pond today, one of Terri's drivers (the orange Orc, nicknamed 'Potatohead'), and a red JK Valkyrie that Keenan was using from the 'bullpen'. On the plus side, we were pleased to discover that sometime over the past month, someone has installed new cement tees on all of the back 9 holes that were previously missing them, including a new tee on 18 (in the alternate 'long' position). I ended up shooting better on the back 9 than the front, ending up with an average score of 63, Terri shot below her average with matching 35s for a 70, and Keenan had a frustrating round coming in third at 76.

1st Cascade Visit of '09

Me and Terri drove down to Cascade in the afternoon, in the sweltering 99 degree heat to play 18, since the wind was relatively calm. Brought plenty of water, and boy did we need it. Interesting how they have now mowed 'fairways' into the park, leaving much of the grassland as waist high wildflowers. Much more attractive, and helps find the holes a little better (of course, finding errant discs is a bit trickier). We never did find 12, and a few of the holes have different tees than we've played them before, but we managed to shoot personal best scores for each of us, and four birdies between the two of us.

Unfortunately, on the drive home, got rear ended when our car stalled out while entering traffic from a dead stop (the guy behind us saw us moving, and then rushed out to follow after taking his eyes off of us).

Hastings Death March

Me and the boy drove down to Hastings today to give the course down there another look-see. Weather was ungodly hot today, temps near 90, and we ended up only playing nine holes, since we spent so much time on each hole searching for lost plastic, searching for the next tees and/or baskets, and swatting bugs. The back nine, with its tall grass, looked like a lost disc just waiting to happen, and we were so worn out, and with little remaining time left, we just packed up and got out of Dodge. Forgot to bring paper and pencil with us, so scores are purely speculative and based on my faulty memory.

Even the fact that we managed to find one disc on this course was tempered by the fact that it was a cheap white DX 'beast', that looked like someone had been letting their dog chew on it. Nice new baskets now on the course (except, for some reason, #4, which is just a pole with a red streamer attached to it, sitting in a pile of wood chips), but the course is so heavily wooded and overgrown, that it just didn't seem worth the long drive out to play it. We had to use a spotter on nearly every hole, and even then, found ourselves searching for lost discs at least 50% of the time.

Brewer Escape

Sunny day, so, after getting a little ahead in my work, I took a mental health day today, and drove down to Brewer around noonish for a solo 36 holes. Played fairly decently, but not spectacularly. Hooked up with a guy named Matt on the last hole on Red, and we ended up playing nine holes on Blue together as a way of dealing with the growing crowds of people. Played White last, and got stuck behind a slow group of Eight who seemed totally clueless that there was a traffic jam behind them on each and every hole. Only one birdie today, on the 8th hole on White, but had several near misses the rest of the round, and several absolutely beautiful drives.

Saturday Night Riverside Solo Round

Had a rare night off from rehearsals Saturday night, so after I couldn't line up a partner, I headed down to Riverside around 7ish for a solo round. I hoped that I was late enough to avoid the crowds, and, up until I got to hole 13, it seemed to mostly be the case. Then I started running into 'young kid pond disc scavengers', 'free fishing weekend enthusiasts', and 'loud drunken oblivious picnickers' all over the water holes, so I skipped ahead and threw four extra discs on the last two holes to make up for them. A long week of rehearsals coming up starting tomorrow, so I'm not sure when I'll next be able to go out again. (51.5)

Johnson solo

Nice sunny day, so headed down to Johnson for a solo round in the afternoon. Rather mediocre round, shot a little over my average at this course, with matching 32's on the front and back. Basically had the course to myself, aside from a few people just finishing when I got there, and another group just starting as I finished up. The only real highlight was a nice putt around an obstacle for birdie on hole 16.
